Social Design Symposium 2024 Report

Social Design Symposium Report & Video Recordings Now Available

The Social Design Symposium, held on March 14, 2024, at The Storey in Lancaster, UK, brought together academics, practitioners, and experts to explore the values, practices, and future directions of social design.

The symposium featured panel discussions, a poster session, and an interactive workshop addressing key questions such as:

  • How can design create social value?

  • What are the best practices for designing social change?

  • Where is social design headed next?

Discussions highlighted four key themes: education, language, evaluation, and funding. The event concluded with a strong call to action for ongoing collaboration, including a proposed book project and the establishment of an international Social Design Special Interest Group (SIG).
