Weißensee School of Art & Design in Berlin emerged from the teaching and idea of the Bauhaus, and while they are really good practitioners – for instance every year they exhibit at Dutch Design weeks – they are now looking to expand and take their practice into research, to discover how practice with design research can lead to impact.
In Summer 2021 Professor Leon Cruickshank from Imagination gave a keynote at their summer school talking about, among other topics, breaking out of paradigms. From there discussions began as to how Imagination could work with the Art School to bring our unique innovative and interdisciplinary approach to their practice and help begin their move from communicating the research people do into doing the research themselves.
Here at Imagination we are extremely excited to be continuing our relationship with Weißensee, putting it in a slightly more formal setting by creating this memorandum of understanding which really means that we acknowledge our friendship and want to do cool things together.
In April 2022 Lancaster University formally opened the Leipzig campus and we are eager to use this as a base to further more interdisciplinary and international research collaborations with not only Weißensee but the rest of Europe including the New European Bauhaus.
