Dalton Square 2032: Beyond SMART City

How 'we' can design futures of connected places

What will the iconic Dalton Square in Lancaster look like in 2032? The two-day interactive exhibition showcases the results from a PhD Design research project allowing people to experience the future city of Lancaster as a ‘Smart’ place, using technology such as the Internet of Things, wearables, and artificial intelligence (AI). This exhibition will present imaginary prototypes of Smart products or services for the future of Dalton Square in 2032, designed by MA Design Management and BA Architecture students from Lancaster University. Each prototype will be presented in rendered images, 3D printed models, and comics. The visitors can see what they are and how they could work in Dalton Square.

This exhibition is open to all interested in how digital technology will shape our local ‘place’. People are invited to reflect on how smart or connected technology could shape their everyday life, consider ‘when do you think it will be deployed in Dalton Square?’ and ‘would you be happy to have a smart bin in Dalton Square?’
