MAGE Tabletop Game covering Liverpool to Millom, Cumbria.
MAGE – Serious Games for Coastal Futures
Dr Paul Cureton has prototyped a tabletop game to understand the extent of systems and dynamics of future coastal scenarios from Liverpool to Millom, Cumbria. Multiple gameboards connect together at a 1:25,000 scale per board to create the complete extent of the Our Future Coast project, led by Wyre Council. The game features player characters, game tokens and card decks playable between 2-40 players aged 7+. The full game design and system will be released as open source at the end of the project. This serious game utilises Environment Agency policies, nature-based solutions and urban strategies for players to adapt and overcome in various interactions, missions and scenarios.
The tabletop game will feature in workshops with communities across the North-West, UK and was developed prior to committing to extensive coastal modelling, GIS, computing, game engine and UI in our forthcoming MAGE system – a portable ‘digital chessboard’ of future coastal environments and planning.
