Cultivating Placemaking Ideas

My Journey Through Placemaking Workshops 🌿 by Amanda Blundell

Date Published: 21 July 2025

Participating in the placemaking workshops was an enlightening adventure, offering me insights into the world of land use planning and the intricacies behind developing, or not developing, certain areas. I learned about the complexities involved in deciding which lands are suitable for development, along with uncovering the hidden histories of places right in our backyard. It was particularly interesting to factor in flood risks and explore innovative solutions to navigate these challenges creatively.

The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. It was truly inspiring to hear such a diverse range of thoughtful ideas on land use and future housing concepts. One particularly innovative thought was about having gardens on rooftops instead of at ground level—an idea that brilliantly conserves space and reshapes urban living. As someone passionate about biodiversity and nature, I found new ways to incorporate these values into the urban landscape.

The guided walks were undoubtedly a highlight, allowing us to explore potential development areas firsthand. The weather played its part beautifully, allowing us to enjoy the scenery without needing to swim through flood-prone zones. On top of that, we were treated to the delightful company of some cute cows!

This entire experience was not just educational but also deeply fulfilling. It connected me with amazing people and provided a platform to share my vision for a greener future that’s more in sync with nature. The sessions were fun, inspiring, and made me realise the significant role I can play in something truly special.
