Walking the Path to Change

Insights from Placemaking with Young Adults Workshops🌿 by Amy Beddall, PYA2.0 participant

Date Published: 12 November 2025

Taking part in the Placemaking with Young Adults Workshops has been very insightful, allowing me to understand the processes behind the creation of local policymaking, planning and sustainable interventions. Learning about these matters through the engaging activities, including guided walks, group discussions and Post-it note pinups, made the workshops fun and interesting!

Navigating, in the lovely sun, around potential developments sites in Lancaster and Morecambe, let us think in respect of our local area, with a variety of factors that supported, or positively challenged, our ideas. I was able to recognise the possibilities and constraints in future-focused planning in rural landscapes, and their impacts on their surrounding environments.

The ‘walkshops’ concluded with open group conversations that were responsive and engaging, giving us a chance to exchange any questions or ideas that were developed during the walks.

The overall experience was dynamic, insightful and welcoming, allowing me to get involved in my local area and meet new people from different disciplines! As an architecture student, these workshops have developed my enthusiasm for local placemaking and the variety of ways to explore community participation.
